About this plugin

UX decisions are often scattered across Slack threads, Jira tickets, or lost entirely when a project moves fast. When you revisit a file months later—or hand it off to developers—the context is gone.

UX Decision Logger keeps your rationale attached to the design itself. It acts as a "single source of truth" specifically for the why behind the what.

✨ Key Features

  1. 📍 Contextual Decision Tracking: Attach structured decisions directly to Frames, Groups, or Components. Define the Problem, Decision, Trade-offs, and Status (Draft, Validated, Deprecated). Data travels with the component—even if you copy-paste it to a new file.
  2. 📸 Smart Snapshots (Visual History): Designs change. Context shouldn't. The plugin automatically captures a visual snapshot of your component at the moment the decision was made. Even if the design evolves, you’ll always see what the UI looked like when the decision was validated.
  3. 🏷️ Auto-Syncing Canvas Badges: Never miss a documented layer. The plugin automatically places smart badges (Green/Red/Gray) next to annotated elements, giving you a bird's-eye view of decision status across your canvas.
  4. 🔍 Search & Filter: Find specific decisions instantly. Filter by text, status, or author to conduct quick UX audits or prepare for design reviews.
  5. 📤 Handoff-Ready Exports: Turn your design thinking into documentation. Export your decision logs to Markdown (for Notion/GitHub/Jira) or CSV (for spreadsheets) with one click.

🔒 Privacy & Security First

  1. Sandbox Environment: Runs entirely within Figma.
  2. No External Servers: Your data never leaves your file. It is stored locally in pluginData.
  3. Performance Optimized: Zero lag, even with hundreds of decisions.

How to use:

  1. Select a Frame or Component.
  2. Open UX Decision Logger.
  3. Fill in the "Problem" and "Decision" fields.
  4. Hit Save—a badge appears on the canvas, and a snapshot is stored.
  5. Export your logs when it's time for handoff!
